Knowledge tends to reduce accidental harm because it’s evidence-based and self-correcting, whereas beliefs lack empirical support and are tough to change. This isn’t foolproof, but it makes sense.
For example, understanding disease transmission leads to better sanitation and fewer deaths, whereas outdated beliefs result in ineffective treatments. Similarly, sociological research shows that diversity benefits societies, countering beliefs of superiority that justify discrimination.
Ironically, I hold this view based on a belief of my own.
